EFFECTIVENESS OF A COMMUNITY-BASED MATERNITY CARE MODEL: AN ANALYSIS OF THE COMMUNITY-BASED MIDWIFERY LITERATURE

This literature review analyzes the effectiveness of community-based maternity care models, focusing on the role of midwives and local healthcare providers in improving maternal and child health outcomes. These models emphasize community involvement and aim to enhance access to quality services, particularly in underserved areas. The review highlights the significant impact of community-based services in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, improving antenatal care, and promoting safe childbirth practices. It also explores the challenges faced in implementing these models, such as limited healthcare facilities and social-cultural barriers. The findings underscore the need for continuous training for midwives, community participation, and the integration of mental health support into maternity care to ensure sustainable improvements in maternal and child health. The study concludes with recommendations for strengthening community-based healthcare programs to bridge gaps in access and quality of maternal health services.
